What is a veblen good?

A Veblen good is a type of luxury good, named after American economist Thorstein Veblen, for which the demand increases as the price increases.

Starting a luxury email service from scratch, with no brand recognition, isn’t easy. That’s why the plan is to begin with a low price and slowly raise it to see how demand reacts.
Normally, as prices go up, demand goes down. That’s what the graph shows. But at some point, a switch might flip in people's minds and it might actually start rising again. That’s the magic moment when people begin to see Veblenmail as something exclusive and desirable: A true luxury brand.
